“With the appointment of all members to the third-term Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Korea (TRCK), efforts to uncover the truth about historical injustices and restore the honor of victims are set to proceed in earnest.
According to the commission on June 24, President Lee Jae-myung appointed two standing commissioners and eight non-standing commissioners recommended by the National Assembly.
The newly appointed standing commissioners are:
Lee Ho-jung, professor at Sogang University Law School, recommended by the Democratic Party of Korea.
Jang Young-soo, emeritus professor at Korea University Law School, recommended by the People Power Party.
Professor Lee has been active in the fields of human rights and the rule of law, having served as chair of the Institute for Information and Human Rights and executive director of the Catholic Human Rights Committee.
Professor Jang previously served for four years as a non-standing commissioner on the second Truth and Reconciliation Commission and has also worked as an advisor to the National Assembly's constitutional reform committee and the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.

Lee Hyun-joo, director of the Park Jong-chul Center, was recommended by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik.
Park Rae-gun, board member of the Human Rights Foundation Saram, was appointed as the representative of a minor political party quota and was recommended by the Basic Income Party.
The eight commissioners' terms run from June 24, 2026, through June 23, 2028.
