Korean Adoptees: Please Be VERY Careful With How (And With Whom) You Share Your Adoption Documents.

Dear fellow Korean Adoptees:
Please be very careful regarding how and with whom you share your sensitive, private adoption documents. In our experience, Korean Adoptees can be over-trusting, and do not always carefully vet those with whom they share their adoption documents — especially ONLINE. And especially with STRANGERS. Just because a person is (or appears to be) another Korean Adoptee does not necessarily mean that they are trustworthy.
The large Korean Adoption Facebook groups can have ANYONE as a member — these large forums are not always carefully Admin’d, and group Admins change over the years, with varying degrees of vetting of prospective “Korean Adoptee” members.
Please note that some Korean Adoptee Facebook forums are PUBLIC — and that ANYONE can see your information there. Even when posting to PRIVATE Korean Adoptee Facebook forums, do not ever consider that information which is posted there will remain “private”.
If someone says that they are a “LAWYER” or “ATTORNEY” — please be sure to verify whether or not this is true. Look up the person’s credentials online — and do NOT just rely on news reports — to see if they really are who they say they are.
This is at no time more important than now, in these uncertain times. Please be smart, and do your due diligence in the age of over-sharing on the internet.
Please do what you can to protect yourselves.
Thank you and stay safe out there!
