Please note that we coined the term “English Adoptive Child Study Summary” in July 2021 to differentiate this document from the formerly secret “Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary”.

The “English Adoptive Child Study Summary” may or may not contain birth parent name/s and birthdate/s. Be sure to try to obtain this document from your adoptive parents if possible.

The “English Adoptive Child Study Summary” often says that a child was “abandoned” with “unknown parents”, and found with a “paper-slip” or “memo” in her or his “clothings” (sic). This document also frequently mentions that a child was found at or taken to a police station — common police station names are Bukboo Police Station, Jangwie Police Station, etc.

In ALMOST ALL KSS Adoptees’ cases, KSS secretly kept what we coined in July 2021 as the “Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary” — a document in which sometimes, though not always, KSS recorded birth parent information which was NOT included on the SAME child’s “English Adoptive Child Study Summary”. MOST KSS Adoptees were never aware that this document existed. From 2021-2025, we helped hundreds of KSS Adoptees request and obtain this formerly secret document from KSS

The “English Adoptive Child Study Summary” was typically a 3-4 page document, the style of which changed over time. Below are representative examples of the FIRST PAGE ONLY of various known styles of this document. In the 1960s, this document was known as the “Case Study Record”, but by the 1970s, this document was either called the “Adoptive Child Study Summary” — or for some (but not all) Danish KSS Adoptees, it was called “Information for ADOPTION in Denmark of a foreign child”. Danish KSS Adoptees may also simply have an “Adoptive Child Study Summary”.

Please try to obtain this document from your adoptive parents! This is BEST if possible, since often the birth parent information in the copy of the document provided to prospective adoptive parents prior to the child’s arrival to their Western country of adoption was NOT REDACTED. Copies of this document which you obtain from other sources are likely to be REDACTED, due to birth parent privacy in Korea.

The Danish equivalent of what is called in the US the “English Adoptive Child Study Summary” (a term which we coined in 2021) is often in DENMARK called “Information for ADOPTION in Denmark of a foreign child”.
