Google Lens + ChatGPT Translation Tutorial.
A reminder that for "recreational" translation purposes, ChatGPT is one of the best automatic translators. It is far superior to Papago or Google Translate.
However, we never recommend to use ChatGPT for translation of the KSS (Korea Social Service) specific document "Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary" or other important birth family search documents, since incorrect translation could lead you on the WRONG path for YEARS.
Please note that we only use ChatGPT for "recreational" purposes, if we need something translated for serious birth family search, we will hire a real translator.

Google Lens + ChatGPT
Translation Tutorial:
Please note that this teaches you how to use a COMBINATION of Google Lens and ChatGPT for translation of IMAGE TEXT - text which you CANNOT just simply copy / paste from a document.
If you ARE able to just copy / paste text from a document, just skip to the ChatGPT part below.
Go to your browser. Type “translate” without quotes and hit Enter. This takes you to Google Translate.
Click the Camera icon to the right. Then upload a photo or image of the text.
Click “upload a file” to upload a file from your computer.
For example, this random Korean letter from the internet. You would need this to be saved to your computer first.
You COULD translate the text right there in Google Translate / Google Lens.
However, Google Translate is FAR inferior to ChatGPT for Korean translation.
So INSTEAD, for a MUCH BETTER translation, instead, at this point click “Select All” making sure you do indeed select ALL of the text.
You may need to drag the bounding box out to “Select All” text. Be sure that ALL text is actually selected.
One thing to look out for is that Google Lens sometimes does not pick up obscure text. This is the problem with any automatic translator. You may miss some text for translation. This could be a serious issue depending on what you are trying to translate.
After clicking “Select All” click “Copy”.
Then in a NEW tab in your browser, go to: Chatgpt.com
You do not even need a log in - you can “Stay logged out”.
Then in the ChatGPT window, type :
translate:
and PASTE the text.
Hit Enter.
And then enjoy your translated text.
Feel free to copy the text to anywhere else from there.
*Of course, you can specify to translate to a language other than English, for example:
translate to Korean / Dutch / Danish / German / etc.:
ProTip: You can even ask ChatGPT to:
translate to POLITE Korean:
And it will do so. This can avoid offending Koreans you are trying to communicate with.

Ask ChatGPT To Translate Korean Text “In The Context Of” Something Specific.
Please note that when you are using ChatGPT to translate something, that you can ask it to translate something "in the context of something".
For example, you can type in ChatGPT:
What is the meaning of (insert Korean character name) in the context of cooking?
And it will tell you.
Sometimes adding a specific context can help you crack the meaning of a word. Of course, take everything with a grain of salt, and test multiple times. And if possible get confirmation from a live / real Korean translator.
Also, there are actually THREE kinds of Korean: Hanja, Hangul, and Hanjeo. Hanjeo is a blend of Hanja and Hangul.
Just FYI.
