NOTICE From NCRC Regarding Future Birth Family Search Requests Made After July 19th, 2025

Recently NCRC shared regarding the file movement from all Korean Adoption Agencies to NCRC starting July 19th, 2025:

“However, from June 16th to September 15th, 2025, all new requests for information disclosure will be temporarily suspended.”

Note: This period of temporary suspension is ostensibly to give NCRC some time to sort through the file transfer. However, in reality, this short period of time is nowhere near the amount of time it will likely take in reality to sort through the file transfer.

A Paperslip contributor notes:

”By setting up the suspension dates this way, the current head of the NCRC secures a smooth final term through 2025 and into his retirement in the spring of 2026. Notably, the suspension overlaps with the national audit period in September and October—effectively blocking any inquiries related to adoption information disclosure during that critical time. It’s a calculated move.

When a new NCRC head is appointed in April or May 2026, just a few months before the next national audit, they’ll be able to deflect responsibility for any past issues, saying, “I wasn’t here when that happened, but we’ll make improvements moving forward.”

In short, the transition conveniently shields both the outgoing and incoming leadership from scrutiny. Clever.”
