It is definitely worth it to submit a Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request to NCRC. It is best to visit in person if possible. But if not, you should still make a purely online Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request to NCRC, so that you can eventually obtain a PDF scan of your KSS file.

Dear KSS Adoptees (and all Korean Adoptees):

It is definitely worth it to submit a Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request to NCRC. It is best to visit in person if possible.

I recently visited NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.

I will say that I was able to understand more about even what was redacted in my KSS file at NCRC by visiting NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do’ IN PERSON. There were (confidential) things which happened in the file review room at NCRC which helped me to get more answers about what was redacted in my file. I will say it was very helpful to have a translator accompany me. This is especially the case as Adoptees are NOT allowed to take any photos of documents in the file review room at NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility.

I understand that not everyone will be able to visit NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in person, but for those who are able to do so, I would highly encourage you to try to do so. Please read below for more information about the process you MUST go through in order to visit one or both of NCRC’s TWO locations in person. You CANNOT just simply show up!

I have received my scanned file from NCRC, and I think it is well worth requesting.

While there is redacted information, NCRC has done a good job of scanning the documents, many of them in color.

Also, apart from the KSS documents in the file, NCRC also scanned all of the PRINTED email correspondence between myself and KSS in the file.

I will work on creating a list of information which was included in my own KSS file, which I saw in person at NCRC in March 2026, and which I recently received a PDF version of.

However, in general I want to note that I really DO think it is worth it to either visit NCRC's Temporary Storage Facility in person, or to file a purely online Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request.

There is a lot of information which I think that KSS Adoptees will find interesting in their file, some of which was not previously available to KSS Adoptees.
