NEW! Korean Adoptee Story Space.

I am trying something new, since there seems to be a great need for a space for Korean Adoptees to tell their stories to a fellow Korean Adoptee peer, one-on-one. I’m introducing “Korean Adoptee Story Space” for those Korean Adoptees who simply want to tell their stories to a fellow Korean Adoptee through one or more paid private one hour Zoom sessions.

People — both Korean Adoptees and non-Adoptees — have long seemed to feel comfortable telling me their deepest secrets, even though we may have just met. Having been a part of the Korean Adoptee community since 2017, I have noticed that many of us have a deep need to share our stories with others. However, often in group environments, there is limited opportunity to do so. We end up telling each other fragments of our stories, without having the opportunity to share a cohesive narrative. For this reason, I decided to create Korean Adoptee Story Space.

Korean Adoptee Story Space is distinct from what I already offer in one-on-one paid, private Zoom consultation sessions for advice regarding birth family search. Korean Adoptee Story Space is simply a space for Korean Adoptees to unpack their narratives, one-on-one with a fellow Korean Adoptee. While birth family search can certainly be discussed in terms of emotions, Korean Adoptee Story Space is not a space in which birth family search advice will be explicitly provided.

I am not a counselor or therapist, and make no pretense about Korean Adoptee Story Space being therapy. However, I know that Korean Adoptees — especially those who do not live in areas around other Korean Adoptees — often simply need a listening ear to hear them out. Group Korean Adoptee spaces — both online and in person — can often be cacophonous with many competing voices, and it’s often difficult or impossible for Korean Adoptees to share their stories in a narrative format. Sometimes, we all need the space to share our entire stories without interruption, in order to help make sense of our own stories and to experience a feeling of validation.

I am happy to be a listening ear for those who need to share their story. Anything shared within this setting would remain confidential.
