DNA Painter: A great tool for estimating DNA relationships.

DNA Painter

If you have taken DNA tests — such as 23 and Me, Ancestry, MyHeritage, or FTDNA — and have found a DNA relative whose common cM (centimorgans) or percentage (%) of relationship you know, you can plug these numbers into the DNA Painter shared cM tool to get an estimate of what your relationship may be.

Enter the total number of cM (centimorgans) for your match, or enter the percentage (%) of your relationship to a DNA relative match, and DNA Painter’s shared cM tool can predict your most likely relationship.

Please note that cM and percentage alone are not 100% determinative of your exact relationship. For example, if you do not know who your birth parents are, but find a close relative through DNA testing, DNA painter can estimate what relationship you have based on cM or percentage of relationship. However, without additional sleuthing, it may be impossible for you to determine your exact relationship without finding additional close relatives to piece the the whole story together.

There are additional interesting tools on the DNA Painter site which you can explore.
