For many Korean Adoptees, DNA testing is the only path when records are missing or falsified.

A reminder that taking ALL possible DNA tests is often the only path for Korean Adoptees whose background information is either missing, or highly falsified.

Recently, a KSS Adoptee whom I advised several months ago in the context of a private Zoom consultation took several DNA tests, and this resulted in her finding her birth family. Within the past month, she had a reunion with her birth family in Korea.

While this does not happen for everyone, ANYONE who takes a DNA test is guaranteed to find at least SOME blood relatives. DNA testing is a long game and requires a lot of patience, but the rewards can be amazing.

Please see our DNA testing page, and please take ALL possible DNA tests if you are seeking blood relatives!

*Please note - please do NOT include in your DNA profile pages that you are an Adoptee, as this can often scare people away. Be sure to develop a bit of a relationship with any DNA matches to whom you reach out, BEFORE telling them that you are an Adoptee.

Good luck out there in your DNA testing journey!

Sidenote:
It always amazes us how many Korean Adoptees spend YEARS searching for family using only their (often falsified) Korean and Western adoption paperwork, and NEVER take ANY DNA tests — or who only take ONE DNA test.

Due to the fact that 23 and Me, Ancestry, and FTDNA are tests which are based in the US and marketed there, many US Adoptees ONLY take one or more of these DNA tests.

Due to the fact that MyHeritage is heavily marketed in Europe, many Korean Adoptees ONLY take MyHeritage.

All of the DNA tests have siloed (separated) databases. For this reason, Korean Adoptees who are serious about birth family search should take ALL POSSIBLE DNA TESTS!

Otherwise, you could miss out on that important match!

Korean Adoption Agencies often separated siblings between different adoptive families and different Western countries.

Please take ALL POSSIBLE DNA TESTS so that you do NOT miss out on important matches!
