KSS Adoptees with an interest in birth family search should submit a Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure to NCRC as soon as possible.

I don't think that all KSS Adoptees realize how much MORE information they are able to obtain from NCRC following the file transfer to NCRC on July 19th, 2025.
If you worked with KSS or NCRC BEFORE the file transfer on July 19, 2025, and BEFORE NCRC resumed accepting requests in September 2025, and you are interested in birth family search and / or in obtaining adoption documents, I strongly encourage you to submit a NEW Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure to NCRC through the KAS website as soon as possible.

KSS Adoptees who have had their Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure requests recently fulfilled by NCRC (*after the July 19th, 2025 transfer of all former Korean Adoption Agency files to NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do) have been able to obtain a great deal of information from NCRC.
NCRC is routinely providing FAR more information than KSS ever did.
Before the file transfer to NCRC, KSS withheld MANY documents which you can now obtain from NCRC. However, the NCRC process is complicated and I strongly suggest that you follow the guidance on Paperslip’s FAQ page for making your requests (see below for link).
If you have interest in birth family search, or interest in future F-4 visa or dual citizenship (for which some documents in your KSS adoption file may be useful or required), I strongly recommend that you submit your Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure to NCRC via the KAS website as soon as possible.
The wait time for purely online requests will be up to one YEAR. However, the wait is WORTH IT considering that you will be able to obtain far MORE documents than you ever have in the past from either KSS or NCRC.
If you visit NCRC's TWO locations in Korea, your response time will be MUCH FASTER, but this assumes that you can successfully book BOTH NCRC appointments, and that you are able to navigate the online NCRC process successfully.

If birth family search is your primary goal, do NOT book your flight and hotel in Korea UNTIL you have CONFIRMED your appointments at NCRC!!! Otherwise, you could leave Korea and waste thousands of dollars without having a copy of your KSS file!!!
You can book appointments at NCRC's TWO locations no less than 2 weeks in advance and no more than 2 months in advance.
Please note that since EVERYONE is trying to book NCRC’s limited number of available meetings, booking NCRC appointments is going to be a bit like trying to book popular concert tickets from now on.
I strongly recommend that you start to plan any trip to Korea at least 4 months in advance and that you MAKE SURE to CONFIRM your NCRC appointments BEFORE you finalize your travel plans!
