Please note that it is NOT clear yet IF or HOW Adoptees’ appointments at NCRC may be impacted by the October 2026 disinfection of files and the November / December 2026 transfer of files. Please read below for more detailed information.

My predictions about the file transfers have been right multiple times… follow the Paperslip Blog for updates.

Please note that I currently have no idea IF or HOW the October 2026 chemical disinfection of files at NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, where ALL former Korean Adoption Agency files are now stored, may impact the scheduled visits of Adoptees who have October 2026 appointments at either of NCRC’s TWO locations:

Location 1:

NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.

Location 2:
NCRC’s Main Office in Seoul

(See address location information at the bottom of the page).

There may be no impact at all — this remains to be seen. It’s too bad that there’s this uncertainty surrounding October 2026 visits to NCRC.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

This October 2026 disinfection is in preparation for the November / December 2026 transfer of ALL former Korean Adoption Agency files from NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility, presumably to the Seongam Branch of the National Archives.

In other words, it remains to be seen how Adoptees who have scheduled appointments at one or both of NCRC’s two locations may be impacted by the October 2026 disinfection, and the November / December 2026 transfer of ALL former Korean Adoption Agency files from NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do to the Seongam Branch of the National Archives.

If you have questions, you should contact NCRC.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Adoptees will be in Korea in October 2026 for the Korean Adoptee conference IKAA (which happens once every three years). This happens to be the first time that IKAA has been hosted in October 2026.

WHO could have predicted that October 2026 might be a bad time for Adoptees to try to visit NCRC? Well, I could have, and I did…

I wrote on April 3rd, 2026, having recently returned from a visit to NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in March 2026:

“Additionally, it is unclear exactly WHEN the files will be treated and moved.
We predict that NCRC will give Adoptees very little NOTICE of when they will just shut down to treat the files with chemical pesticides. This will surely interrupt the plans of some Korean Adoptees who will travel to Korea specifically for the purpose of visiting NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. If the past is any indication of how NCRC operates, our guess is they will shut down during the busy Summer months or during IKAA in October 2026 — whatever is most inconvenient for Adoptees. But we really have no idea exactly when they will shut down. Of course, we will share if we learn anything about their timeline, though we are unlikely to get much advance notice.”

I was also right about the massive bottlenecking that would occur during the FIRST major transfer of ALL former Korean Adoption Agency files, from the former Korean Adoption Agencies to NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do.

I visited NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, in March 2026, since I knew the files would be transferred again to The National Archives sometime in 2026. Here’s my advice.

A reminder of what could be lost during the upcoming “disinfection” of former Korean Adoption Agency files at NCRC, in advance of their transfer to the National Archives.
