Please IMMEDIATELY DOWNLOAD AND PRINT your PDF files once NCRC fulfills your Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request. If you lose the password, you could permanently lose access to your files.

NCRC has begun to use more unique passwords now!

When NCRC fulfills your Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request, NCRC adds a PASSWORD to your PDF files (which are scans in PDF format of your former Korean Adoption Agency files).

Please IMMEDIATELY DOWNLOAD AND PRINT your files and make sure that you save your files in such as way that you do NOT have to use a password to access them. You may need to resave them or export the PDF as images and reconstitute a new PDF. Whatever it takes, make sure that you will be able to access these files without a password.

The last thing you want to have to do — if you lose your password — is have to resubmit a NEW document request to NCRC — which NCRC MIGHT NOT honor! Even if NCRC did honor such a request — which I highly doubt — then you will need to wait for between 5 months to one year to get a NEW request fulfilled. Or hope that NCRC would be able to recover your password (which I doubt).

*Please note you CAN make a new birth family search request to NCRC once per year, assuming there is any birth parent information in your file to go on.

A request for DOCUMENTS is different than a request for a BIRTH FAMILY SEARCH. (You can request both or one or the other when you complete your Petition for Adoption Information Disclosure request).

Just a warning since I imagine this could affect Adoptees in the future, who are not always the greatest at maintaining their files. We can blame NCRC for certain things, but we also have to take responsibility for file management ourselves.
