Our Unofficial Travel Advisory for U.S. Korean Adoptees — Regarding IKAA’s Gathering in October 2026.
We first shared this post on February 15th, 2026, but took it down. We are resharing as recent global events make our previous travel warning all the more relevant.
*Please note that the following is NOT an official travel advisory. This is purely our common sense CAUTIONARY message. International travel in 2026 and beyond is down to your personal level of comfort.
For U.S. Korean Adoptees considering attending the IKAA Gathering in Seoul this upcoming October 2026 — which happens only once every three years — we want to mention something which you may not be currently considering.
The IKAA conference this year in October 2026 will be happening in the immediate run-up to the November 2026 U.S. midterm elections. Update: Recent global events add an obvious layer of concern. We just want to make Korean Adoptees aware that we do not know what travel conditions may look like around this time. So if you decide to book travel plans, we strongly advise you to enable refundable cancellation of your trip, just in case international travel becomes problematic around that time.
*Please note that our concern is not about traveling TO Korea — it’s about traveling BACK to the U.S.
We don’t want to scare anyone, but we just want to be realistic about potential travel risks in the current U.S. environment.
