KSS Adoptees, please LOOK at your documents to determine which documents you do and DO NOT have.

Many KSS Adoptees do not realize they are missing certain key documents. This is due to many reasons — fear, uncertainty due to Adoptees’ inability to read Korean, and overall confusion.

However, we urge KSS Adoptees to please actually LOOK at your documents and compare YOUR documents to our Illustrated Catalog of Known KSS Documents.

This is because you are now able to obtain MORE documents from NCRC than you were previously able to obtain from KSS.

Many KSS documents look alike, but are NOT the same!

The KSS specific form titled, “국내소속서류작성의뢰서” / “Request Form for Preparation of Domestic Affiliation Documents” is DIFFERENT from the KSS specific form colloquially called the “Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary”.

Please see our Illustrated Catalog of Known KSS Documents to see the differences between these and other documents!

Please note that KSS NEVER shared the “국내소속서류작성의뢰서” / “Request Form for Preparation of Domestic Affiliation Documents” form with KSS Adoptees — or with anyone outside of KSS.

This form (along with all others from your KSS file) can now be obtained through NCRC!

Prior to July 2021 when myself and one other KSS Adoptee accidentally figured out how to request and obtain it, KSS only rarely shared the formerly secret Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary”.

The “Korean Adoptive Child Study Summary” can also now be obtained from NCRC. Please note that NCRC will partly redact any birth parent information on this form.

Please note that (at least while our files are still with NCRC) you will get much FASTER service by visiting NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do than by ONLY requesting files online. If you request to receive your documents ONLY online, please know that you will likely have to wait 5-6 months for your request to be fulfilled by NCRC.

Please note that ALL former Korean Adoption Agency files — including those of KSS — will move AGAIN sometime in 2026. This time they will move from NCRC’s Temporary Storage Facility in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do to the Seongam Branch of the National Archives.

Stay tuned for updates.
